As I mentioned in my last post, I attended the Florida Blog Conference over the weekend. It was a one-day event that took place at Full Sail University in Orlando. ( In the above photo, I’m standing in their “studio back lot” where a few of the day’s events took place .) I’ve been to a couple of WordCamps, bootcamps for WordPress users, but this was my first ever blog conference.
It turned out to be a really great conference with so much information. The keynote speaker Pat Williams gave an inspirational speech on what he believes to be the 10 “building blocks” of a champion. The speech was an edited version of his book Who Wants to Be a Champion? . The “building blocks” were things such as ‘take responsibility for your actions’, ‘turn failures into strengths’, ‘choose the right kinds of friends’, and ‘remember that character counts’. His inspirational words were a great way to start off the day!
By the end of the conference, I was struggling to stay alert even though the break-out sessions were all very informative, engaging, and helpful. The closing keynote speaker Pam Moore ( pictured above ) gave a speech that had me thinking about the direction of this blog. She also spoke about setting goals and offered a superb acronym for steps in outlining one’s goals.
The picture above was the Bahama Breeze Back Lot where Ford vehicles were on display near sponsored food stations for the after-party. This area reminded me of Universal Studios and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I almost forgot that I was on a university campus!
I went away with so much information and great ideas for my blog and work, in general. I’m already looking forward to next year’s conference!!
On another note, can I talk about that bag I’m wearing? I purchased it at my local Saks earlier this year because it was on sale for a really great price. I was hesitant to get it because I thought A) “Do I really need ANOTHER bag? and B) “It’s cute, but when will I ever wear it?” My friend Marguerite happened to be there as she was just hired as a department manager, and she convinced me to get the bag. And I’m so glad she did!
It was perfect for carrying documents when I went to court ( for changing my last name – not for committing a crime…) , and it was perfect for carrying my 13″ MacBook Air and other essentials for this conference!! You can’t see it in the pics that well, but the bag is embossed in an ostrich-print, which makes it look extra special. The bag holds quite a bit, is incredibly lightweight, functional in style, and I think pretty chic for a briefcase.
