LEFT: A view from one of the hallways. I can’t recall what floor I was on as there were so many steps I climbed and rooms I went through. RIGHT: The grande entrance to the main home.
The grounds of the Hearst Estate. The above left and bottom right are two of the three “cottages” for visiting guests who preferred more privacy than staying in many extra bedrooms within the main home. The bottom left photo was one of the numerous statues that “caught my attention”, LOL!
TOP: Strolling the grounds near one of the cottages and admiring the gorgeous Bougainvillea vines!
ABOVE: Walking out to the Roman pool felt I like was in The Great Gatsby or something. I can’t even begin to describe the scale of it!
Mr. Hearst had pools completely designed, built, and torn down THREE times before he finally settled on this one. If it looks familiar to you, you might be thinking of the pool at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. The design was based off of this!
In addition to the architectural details, the landscaping, and the modern amenities built before it’s own time, the views from the home were breathtaking. It’s no wonder why the home was dubbed “La Cuesta Encantada” – spanish for the enchanted hill.
LEFT: That pool was calling my name. I just wanted to jump in it! RIGHT: The original version of the photo I instagrammed while touring the grounds.
LEFT: Hearst’s office where he held staff meetings and conducted business. RIGHT: The many newspapers he owned and personally reviewed before going to print.
Thank you for letting me reminisce about my recent trip to Hearst Castle . It was every bit as beautiful as I imagined it to be.
Happy Monday!
